Sunday Brunching at Proof Canteen

Sundays Are For Brunching!

After a busy week, Brittany and I always make sure to treat ourselves
on Sundays!  Typically, we look forward to sleeping in, going out for
brunch at a new restaurant, going shopping at Last Chance, and hitting
an afternoon Yin Yoga class.
We love a brunch with good coffee, mimosa, and a selection of our
favorite foods!  We recently discovered Proof Canteen at The Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North.
When you walk through the doors, you are about to go “on a
cross-country road trip down the main streets of America” as
professional road trippers, this is right up our alley!  The staff is
dressed in the cutest red and blue gingham shirts, and the decor is
stylish, classic, and tasteful.
The menu offers American classics such as chicken and waffles and
fried green tomatoes.  Brittany and I tried the weekend breakfast
buffet, offered every Saturday & Sunday from 7-11:30 AM.
We loved the made to order omelets and the vast selection of the
different meats and cheeses.  You are bound to find something you love
on the buffet, as there is just about everything you can think of!
Lox, eggs, bacon, potatoes, French toast, waffles, omelets, cereal,
and oatmeal.  I fell in love with their jams!  I mixed them all
together with maple syrup on my French toast!  It was amazing!
Everything looked so picture perfect!  The atmosphere was beautiful!
Brittany and I loved sitting outside sipping our mimosa.  I tried the
fresh squeezed grapefruit mimosa and Brittany had the classic orange
juice mimosa.  We drank just over a pot of coffee enjoying our Sunday
morning and making plans for our next rendezvous!
If you are in Arizona, Proof is definitely worth checking out!  They
are open every day, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and happy hour.
We can’t wait to come back to Proof for Happy Hour!
Special thank you to Proof Canteen for this wonderful brunch experience!
What your favorite Sunday routine?

Brittany is an award winning fine art photographer and internationally published writer who is more than busy, and happy, putting her skills to work on TheJeepGirls and TheJeepGirlsBlog with her little sister. She never thought that she would be managing a blog biz, but if she admits it, she has been “blogging” for 15+ years through internet platforms. She loves learning about neurolinguistic programming, is a voracious reader, sometimes sappy romantic fiction, and works best on deadline. Her best buddy is her white Pomeranian, Glacier, but her family and her boyfriend make her world possible. Ashley’s Favorite Things: Lisi Lerch

Summer Fun Earrings

Lisi Lerch has such a wonderful story! We love that she freed herself
from her 9-5 full-time job to follow her true heart! What began as an
adventure of creating Kentucky Derby inspired-hats, turned into the success of
her very popular jewelry line.
Lisi was inspired by her grandmother’s jewelry collection and has
taken her love of beautiful accessories to each piece she
creates!
We love that her earrings are bold, bright, and creative!  Brittany
and I picked out the Margo-Ear Candy earrings, as they literally look
like candy!  We love statement pieces that speak for themselves!  When
you’re getting dressed, why wouldn’t you make your outfit fun?  These
earrings are bound to put you in a cheerful mood!
We also picked out the Firecracker Earrings!  They literally look like
fireworks!  They’re really fun and easy to wear, as they go with
everything!
We’re really excited to see what Lisi comes up with in the next few
years!  She’s definitely a fun brand to put on keep on your radar!
She will not disappoint!

Ashley’s Favorite Things: The Jeep Girls Ladies Run

Believe in the unexpected! Trust your spotters! And remember that it
takes a team to make a dream!
After a very impromptu get together last year, the guys had a great
idea for the ladies to drive their vehicles off-road. The four of us
(Da Lene, Sabrina, and Sheliah) had such a great time, that we knew we
had to do it again!
After talking to Brittany about last year’s run, we wanted to invite
some more friends and share this experience with others. Brittany and
I are constantly inspired by our teachers and guides. We believe that
there is always something to be learned, and we’ve realized that as a
team of two, it’s important to bounce ideas off of others.
We talked to our friends at Hercules Tire and invited them to come
with us! Our little get together just seemed to snowball! We invited
Jeep guru Rick Pewe to give our group a few pointers, and he did a
fantastic job as chief trail gunner and introduction host. Kevin
Hawkin’s girlfriend Barbara was excited about the potential to drive
off-road with like-minded gals! Jim Repp brought a manual JK and
ended up being an excellent teacher and spotter. We had such a great
group that turned in to a very strong team!
Brittany and I try not to take ourselves too seriously! We want to
make sure everyone has fun, gets to experience something new, and take
a piece of us with them.
We spent a few weeks gathering our favorite trail products for our
group. We have been on so many guided tours wishing for water, or a
snack, or some type of essential, that we wanted to make sure our
group had everything that we would want!
Trail Bags included:
-BuiltNY Lunch Bags (we choose these bags because they are soft,
packable, durable, and they zipper)
-BuiltNY Water Bottles (we love insulated water bottles, they fit in a
cup holder and they’re super stylish)
-Buff’s (multi-functional UV headwear. It can be worn like a scarf,
headband, cap, mask…any way you choose! We love how they look and
that it keeps you protected from the sun and dust)
-Neon Sunglasses (Oriental Trading has the best party gifts! The neon
wayfarers look fun, they keep the dust out of your eyes, and everyone
looks good in them)
-Boulder Canyon Chips (Boulder Canyon has the most unique flavors,
like Teriyaki Ginger! They’re chips aren’t greasy and they taste so
good!)
Jack Link’s Jerky (We love jerky! It’s the best pick-me-up on those
long trail rides)
-LaCroix (Sparkling water is so refreshing on the trail, they have so
many different flavors to choose from)
Justin’s (Vanilla Almond Squeeze Packs and Hazelnut Snack Packs with
Pretzels, everyone loves a sweet and healthy treat)
-Philosophy (Moisturizer is so important in Moab! This stuff is the
best! It will keep your skin hydrated and fresh)
Our group spent the afternoon driving on Fins and Things. It is a
wonderful trail with a variety of slickrock obstacles. We left
feeling accomplished and ready to do it again next year!

Moab 2017!

Why Moab means so much to us:
Moab is a very special kind of place for us! Collectively, Brittany
and I like to think that it always signifies a change or growth, sort
of like Spring cleaning!
There was that year when someone encouraged us to buy a JK…
There was that year when someone told us about the series of the blood
red moons…
Then there was that year that we met Fred Williams!
And then there was that year that we left our day jobs and launched
TheJeepGirls.com
But before all of that…there’s a great story!
The first year (2011) I went to Moab, I had two goals! One was to
experience the incredible red rocks and the second was to meet Head of
Jeep Design, Mark Allen. I had heard that the Jeep engineers and
designers would take their concept Jeeps out and actually take them
off-road on the fabulous red rocks!
Earlier that year, (in 2010) I had seen a video of Mark Allen, talking
about the “Easter Eggs” that were strategically part of the new WK
(the all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee)! He was a real Jeep enthusiast! He
was so excited and enthusiastic and passionate about the craftsmanship
and elements of design in the new Grand Cherokee, I just had to meet
him!
It was that year (2011) in Moab, I had felt like I was backstage at
the Dave Matthews Band Concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater, only I
wasn’t able to see the concert.
I had asked almost every single person I met in the Walker Drug
parking lot if I could just ride with them on a trail. I had to get
out of the parking lot of Walker Drug and see the red rocks! My
co-worker told me to “cool it” as he had been there 5 years in a row,
and he never got to go on the trails.
Something just didn’t feel right about being in Moab and not being
able to set foot on a trail. I would drop off my co-workers at the
Walker Drug parking lot before my shift just hoping that I would get a
chance to jump in with someone and hit the trails.
It was that same year that Mark Allen introduced me to Tom Haberkamp,
and I met the fun and exciting Tony Carvallo! I even got to ride
along and hit the trails three times!
Fast forward a few years later, I met the incredible Fred Williams!
We ran Porcupine Rim (at night, as Brittany and I still worked during
the day in the Walker Drug parking lot as Jeep Product Specialists)
and the wheel had fallen off of Fred’s white TJ nicknamed “Tube Sock.”
I had never meet someone so calm, patient, and nice! Fred would help
me with the very complicated seatbelt every single time, and he didn’t
fret when the group left us and the wheel fell off! He’s one cool
dude!
Well, fast forward three years, and Brittany and I led The Jeep Girls
First Official Ladies Run along with our third annual Hike to Delicate
Arch.
We are extremely excited to be sharing our adventure with you, as
we’ve taken a lot of risks to be where we are today! None of this
would have been possible with our friends and sponsors that have
encouraged us to think outside the box, work harder, and ultimately be
the best we can be!

#RoadToMoab
This year we teamed up with Hercules Tires on the ultimate #RoadToMoab
adventure!
We put the new Hercules Terra Trac AT II’s on Commander White. We
upgraded from a highway tire to an all-terrain tire. I like to say
it’s like getting new gym shoes! New tires are the best! The
Commander handles better and more precise!
However, before we set off on our #RoadToMoab, we stopped by Tempe
Dodge, our local Chrysler Jeep dealership to get our Commander checked
out. As professional road trippers and members of the High Mileage
Club, we wanted to make sure everything was up to snuff. We love
visiting Tempe Dodge, our local dealership, as they keep our high
mileage Jeeps running well! They’re customer service is the best and
these guys take ownership over their work! The best part is they are
very nice, they only use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts,
and all of their work is guaranteed.

Here’s a list of some of the things we got serviced:
-Oil Change (good to do every 3,000 miles)
-Tune Up (new spark plugs)
-tri combo service (three process cleaning of throttle body, intake
manifold, and additive into the fuel tank)
-New Water Pump (we had a little crack, best to replace it)
-Thermostat and upper and lower hoses and drive belt (since these
parts are removed during water pump repair)
-Alignment (important as we just got new tires)
-New Battery (in AZ, batteries only last about 2 years)
-New Front Struts (one was leaking, so we replaced them)
-K Flush (if you’re part of the high milers club, 100,000+ be sure to
change your fluids, such as transmission fluid, engine coolant, power
steering fluid, brake fluid)
Before we packed up Commander White, I grabbed all of my favorite
things. (I’m so glad that we brought the biggest Jeep there is!)
-Hats (You can never have enough hats in Moab! The sun is very intense)
-Snacks (Trail snacks are essential! Especially non-perishables) We
brought plenty of Jack Link’s Jerky, Boulder Canyon Chips, and
Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter Squeeze Packs and Hazelnut Snack Packs)
-Liquids (We love our sparkling water! LaCroix is the best! We also
brought lots of FRED Water, these flask like bottles will fit in
almost every pocket)

For more of our “road-trip favorite items”

As soon as we started our drive and I tracked our mileage, we averaged
19 MPG on our trip! We use to get 14-16 MPG. With the new tires, the
K flush and the tune up, we are really impressed with our improved
fuel economy!
Our first stop was for gas in Flagstaff at the Little America Hotel.
After we pulled over to eat a sandwich we realized we had pulled next
to a Hercules Tire sign. We couldn’t believe it! We laughed and
instantly jumped out to take photos. Jose even jumped out of his
truck to get a photo with us!
INSERT PHOTO
We took that as a sign that our week was going to turn out better than
expected! We arrived into Moab late into the evening, but knew that
our week was going to be magical

The Jeep Girls Packing List

The Jeep Girls Packing List
Some Road Trip Essentials We Can’t Live Without!
After years of adventures in Moab, our team has developed a list of
some multifunctional must have road trip and trail essentials! We’ve
tried them, we’ve tested them, and we love them!  That’s why we are so
thrilled to include our friends on our #RoadToMoab
ESSENTIALS:
Hercules Tires:
Road Trip Safety is something that we are always trying to educate our
readers on.  Brittany and I have been on all sorts of road trip across
the country!  We’ve seen tires split on cars on the highway.  (One
time a car lost control and the accident happened right in front of us
on the I-10).  We’re super into shoes for our feet and shoes for our
Jeep!  Every time the tire pressure light goes on (!), we make sure to
check it!  To be safe, we’ve teamed up with Hercules Tires for our
entire #RoadToMoab .  We will be trying out their new all-terrain
tires on our Jeep Commander, the ultimate Overlanding vehicle!  So
excited to head on a road trip!
Dorcy & Life+Gear
The first time we walked to the Delicate Arch during the full moon,
someone told us that the light of the moon will guide you down the
trail.  Sure, if you know exactly where you are going and if the moon
is up in time.  (The moon rises about 35-60 minutes later each night).
After getting lost at noon on a perfectly sunny day on our scoping
trip to Delicate Arch (Ashley doesn’t have a good sense of direction)
and having someone share their flashlight with us on the way down on
another trip to the arch, we ALWAYS make sure to have the BEST
headlamps and flashlights with us!  A few years ago, we were so happy
that we could help a family get down the trail with some Dorcy lights!
It’s been a tradition now to go see the famous arch at night!  We
love to bring Dorcy glow sticks and strong flashlights to illuminate
the arch.  We also make sure that all of our Jeeps have flashlights on
board! You just never know when you might need a light on the trail.
Oriental Trading:
We feel that every adventure is a party! We try not to take ourselves
too seriously! We love bringing that fun and festive spirit to
everyone we meet! (Yes!  Brittany and I were both on student council
in high school, and I was the leader of the Spirit Committee) Whether
we have lei’s or fun sunglasses, we want everyone to feel like they
are part of the party!  This year, we went with a Prospector theme, as
Moab has been known for its mining of Uranium!  This year our
adventure is packed with fun things like colorful bandanas, gold
coins, sunglasses and rock candy!
Buff:
We first discovered Buffs in Moab!  They are wonderful!  This
multi-functional  headwear can be used so many ways!  If you’re not
using it like a headband to catch the fly-aways while you are cruising
in your Jeep Wrangler, it can be worn over your head like a cap to
protect your head from the sun, over your neck like a turtleneck, or
over your mouth to protect yourself from the dust on the trails.  They
are light, fun, colorful, easy to wear, and very easy to wash!
Built NY:
Two years ago, we went on a little run and Fred asked if I had any
soft lunch boxes (luckily I had gotten one on a trail ride the day
before).  When the Jeep is packed with “necessities” like a spare tire
and tools, a soft lunch box is the best thing!  It doesn’t take up
much space, but keeps your snacks all in one place.  We’re so excited
to have these Built NY lunch totes for all of our trail rides this
year.
Brittany and I also have been on a quest to find the best reusable
tumblers for coffee and water.  We love tumblers that fit in the cup
holder and keep the coffee hot!  We also love water bottles that keep
the water cold!  When you are on the trail, having a reusable and
refillable water/coffee container is very important as it illuminates
waste and trash on the trail.
philosophy:
I wouldn’t say that I have sensitive skin, but I am definitely fair
skinned as a redhead.  The sun and dry weather always gets me in Moab!
I feel that I can never put on enough SPF and lotion in Moab!
Brittany has been using philosophy for years!  It is her absolute
favorite skin care line!  We will be putting lotion in all of our
trail bags!
HokaOneOne:
As I mentioned, we are super into shoes!  New shoes are like walking
on clouds!  Brittany picked out my first pair of HokaOneOne’s for me
just about a year ago!  They are the best gym shoes that I own, and I
get some many compliments on them!  Since my first pair of
HokaOneOne’s I have gotten a second pair, and a pair for my mom and my
aunt!  We are now a HokaOneOne family!!  I’m so excited to bring the
HokaOneOnes to our team!
Blender Bottle:
Brittany likes to say that she has a special relationship with her
Blender Bottle.  She loves to show me that she can put it in her
backpack, turn it upside down and it won’t leak!  We are so glad that
we have finally found gym water bottles that fit in our bags and won’t
leak!  We especially love all of the bright colors!
SNACKS:
I am the snack lady!  Over the years, I’ve learned that the weather in
Moab is different every year!  Sometimes it is really hot and
sometimes it is very cold!  (Last year there were flurries).  We’ve
also learned that it is so important to have snacks that aren’t
perishable.  It is also VERY important to bring enough snacks for
everyone, because you just don’t know how long you will be on the
trail.
Justin’s:
Brittany absolutely loves peanut butter and all sorts of nut butters!
The sweet and salty snack is perfect thing for when your energy is
low!  This year we are adding Vanilla Almond Butter Squeeze Packs and
snack packs to our lunch sacks.
Jack Links Jerky:
It’s not a trail ride with us unless there’s jerky!  We love to eat
our protein!  Jack Links Jerky is one of our all time favorites! It’s
like having steak in our pocket! We are brining a variety of flavors
so that we never get bored with our jerky!
Boulder Canyon Chips:
I first discovered these chips at the Hotel Jerome in Aspen!  They are
so good!  Every time Fred and I eat a sandwich, we love to eat potato
chips!  They are the perfect snack for an adventure on the trail!
LaCroix Water:
Moab is very dry!  It’s so important to hydrate!  We love the fresh
taste of sparkling water!  LaCroix has the best flavors! We just love
it!
FRED Water:
I found FRED Water on that same trip to The Hotel Jerome in Aspen a
few years ago!  FRED Water is super cool!  The flask-like bottle will
fit right into your pocket, so that you have water with you all the
time!  The bottle is so cool!  I discovered FRED Water before I met
Fred.  He also discovered FRED Water when he went on a trip in the
Rocky Mountains.  We love the bottles, we love the water, and we love
having FRED with us when Fred (Williams) can’t make it!
Disclosure:
We are very excited to be working with our supporting partners on our
#RoadToMoab  They have sent us their products for us to review and
field test in Moab.  Regardless, all of these opinions are completely
our own.  We selected to work with the aforementioned friends because
we already use them and love them every day!
